Centegra Health System is dedicated to the health of women throughout McHenry County. The obstetricians and gynecologists on the medical staff at Centegra specialize in:

  • Annual gynecologic exams
  • Birth control
  • Hysterectomy procedures
  • Management of menopause
  • Gynecologic disorders
  • Complete care during pregnancy, labor and delivery

Annual Exams

We advise that girls between the ages of 13 and 16 make an appointment with a gynecologist to review changes during puberty and screen for gynecologic problems. Most will have a reason to initiate regular care with a gynecologist by the age of 21. These reasons might include:

  • Questions about normal development
  • Menstrual issues
  • Questions regarding sex or sexually transmitted diseases
  • Birth control

Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

Centegra Physician Care obstetricians and gynecologists perform laparoscopic hysterectomies to provide faster recovery times from major surgery. During the procedure, the physician creates three small incisions in your abdomen and uses a small camera to locate the uterus so it can be detached from its blood supply and removed. The fallopian tubes, ovaries and cervix also can be removed through laparoscopic surgery. Laparoscopic surgery is an alternative for those who cannot receive vaginal hysterectomies because they have scar tissue or because the uterus is too large. Visit the Gynecologic Surgery page to learn more about robotic gynecologic surgery at Centegra.

Birth Control

The obstetricians and gynecologists on the medical staff at Centegra are able to advise you about all forms of birth control and offer you a variety of options, including:

  • Cyclic hormones, including pills, patches and rings
  • Methods that reduce or eliminate menstrual cycles including the above, as well as shots, implants under the skin and intrauterine devices (IUDs)
  • Essure® permanent birth control (requires no surgery)
  • Sterilization

Gynecologic Disorders

The gynecologists on staff at Centegra welcome questions regarding difficult to discuss issues, such as sexual function, fertility or incontinence (loss of control of the bladder). They also can manage, monitor and treat:

  • Problematic menstrual bleeding
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Sexual infections and sexually transmitted diseases
  • Abnormal Pap smears
  • Pelvic pain or pain in the abdomen
  • Fertility problems
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • Endometriosis

Menopause technically starts a year after your last menstrual bleeding. Many get to that time with minimal disruption of their lives. However, a significant number have symptoms that make their lives less enjoyable and may be a sign of other problems. If you experience any concerns, you may benefit from consultation with a gynecologist on staff at Centegra who can help you evaluate and manage these symptoms and improve the quality of your life. Problems related to menopause include:

  • Heavy or prolonged bleeding
  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Moodiness
  • Sleep problems
  • Osteoporosis
