Bone Density or DEXA scans are performed to evaluate your bone mass and will assess your risk of future fracture.
Prepare for Your DEXA Scan
An initial DEXA scan will generate information about your bone density for your age and about your overall risk of fracture. If you have had a prior DEXA scan, in addition to age density comparison and risk of fracture, a comparison to your prior scan will be made to evaluate for bone loss.
A radiologist, a doctor who is specially trained to interpret the scan, will review your DEXA scan and send a report to your physician. The information included can help your physician determine if any treatment is needed to help reverse or prevent further bone loss.
