About Centegra’s Healthcare Explorer Post
Centegra’s Healthcare Explorer Post program started January 2015 and already has more than 20 young community members participating. This program is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, but has both female and male members. The Healthcare Explorer Post is for anyone who is 14 and graduate of the eighth grade or those 15 through 20 years of age who would like an in-depth, hands-on experience in the realm of health care. Students meet monthly to learn about different professions within the hospital and are engaged with hands-on activities, games and presentations. They have the opportunity to closely interact with several health care professionals ranging from accountants, administrators and marketing agents to doctors, nurses and dietitians. Explorers who are high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to shadow at the hospital as an additional way to experience the job fields. Also, students in this program are among the first to receive information about applicable hospital job openings and similar opportunities, as well as detailed information about the health care degrees offered at local colleges and universities.
