EMS System Resources

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for McHenry and Lake Counties

In partnership with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Centegra Health System created the McHenry Western Lake County EMS System in 1975. As the resource hospital for this two-county EMS system, Centegra Hospital-McHenry has administrative responsibilities for the pre-hospital patient care provided throughout our service area. Centegra Hospital-Woodstock and Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital are associate hospitals.

The role of the resource hospital is to provide medical direction for EMS patient care, initial and ongoing training, quality assurance, and policy development in the oversight of more than 800 EMS providers, including:ems

  • EMT Basic
  • EMT Paramedic
  • Pre-Hospital RN
  • Emergency Communications RN
  • Emergency Medical Dispatchers

EMS Service Providers

Each year, our EMS providers respond to more than 35,000 patient requests for Emergency Medical Services. EMS service provides working with Centegra include:

911 Dispatch Services

As a resource hospital in the heart of our EMS service region, Centegra Hospital-McHenry brings a new level of protection and care to individuals requiring emergency medicine at hospitals in McHenry and Lake County. Our staff’s high level of training, oversight, and experience makes the McHenry Western Lake County region one of the best-protected areas in the United States.

EMS Training

McHenry County College contracts with Centegra to offer EMS training and classes to students in the region. Training courses include:

  • First Responder
  • EMT Basic
  • EMT Paramedic

Our Emergency Department staff:

  • Assists the EMS student in the learning process.
  • Supervises students in all patient assessment and treatment
  • Completes accurate and thorough student evaluations
