Level II Trauma Centers in McHenry County
Centegra is committed to providing comprehensive emergency services that address any type of emergency, from chest pain and strokes to serious fractures. The Emergency Departments at Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Huntley are designated as Level II Trauma Centers, which means they meet strict criteria set by the State of Illinois for providing high-level emergency care. The Emergency Department at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock is designated as a Comprehensive Emergency Department.
Both hospitals are staffed 24 hours a day by physicians who are board certified in emergency medicine. The hospitals also have trauma surgeons available, as well as a specially trained nursing staff certified in trauma nursing, advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support. Both medical centers offer immediate access to X-ray equipment, CAT scanners, advanced surgical facilities and intensive care units.
Flight For Life
Centegra is one of only seven hospital systems in Illinois that has an on-site air medical transport helicopter service. Flight For Life-Northern Illinois is a nonprofit emergency helicopter program that started at Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in 1987 as part of the Emergency Medical Services System. Flight for Life serves residents of McHenry, Lake, and DuPage counties, as well as southeast Wisconsin.
Flight For Life provides transport from one hospital to another and from an accident scene to the nearest appropriate Level I trauma center or other specialty center. This means you receive the level of care you need as quickly as possible.
Centegra’s Minor Care Centers are located adjacent to Centegra Hospital-Huntley, Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock’s Emergency Departments. The Minor Care Centers provide treatment for less-severe injuries or illnesses, such as:
- Sinus infection
- Bladder infection
- Stomach flu
- Strep throat
- Pink eye
- Stress fractures
- Much more

Emergency Department Pharmacists
Centegra Health System has expanded and improved patient care by adding Emergency Department pharmacists. These pharmacists work as full-time consultants to the emergency medicine doctors on the critical care team.
Centegra’s Emergency Department pharmacists are present in the emergency room so you receive the medications you need exactly when you need them. This timely delivery of sometimes life-saving medication improves patient care, reduces costs, and reduces medication errors. The Emergency Department pharmacists can also save you money by avoiding wasted medication, suggesting less-expensive drugs, or pointing out less expensive ways to provide medication.
Centegra’s Emergency Departments in Huntley, McHenry and Woodstock offer a range of educational programs for McHenry, Lake, and DuPage counties:
Emergency department staff checks on potentially high-risk patients the day following emergency treatment and provides any necessary guidance.
Older adult safety, focusing on fall prevention, home safety and emergency preparedness.
Child safety, often in collaboration with Safe Kids McHenry County, a chapter of Safe Kids USA, offering information and events to help prevent childhood injury.
