Comprehensive Care for Hospitalized Patients in McHenry County
Centegra Health System’s hospitalists are physicians who have experience treating patients in a hospital setting. As a Centegra patient, you will benefit from the care of hospitalists, who are entirely focused on your care–quickly following up on your tests and adjusting your treatment regimens throughout your hospital stay. Hospitalists also allow primary care physicians to have more hours and availability in the office, making regular appointment scheduling more convenient.
What is a Hospitalist?
A hospitalist is a physician specially trained to oversee the care of hospitalized patients. Hospitalists work in collaboration with your primary care physician and other physician specialists, keeping them up to date about your progress. Hospitalists are also available if a patient rapidly declines and immediately needs a physician at the bedside.
As inpatient care specialists, hospitalists provide the same first-rate care as a primary care physician. If you are hospitalized at Centegra Hospital-McHenry or Centegra Hospital-Huntley, a Centegra hospitalist will be available to you 24 hours a day and will be able to consult with every specialist and department in the hospital on your behalf.
Centegra hospitalists assist you through a smooth and speedy recovery process by:
- Quickly following up on any diagnostic tests and adjusting your treatment regimen based on those test results
- Keeping track of consultations and procedures performed by physician specialists
- Working with nurses and other staff to coordinate your care
- Informing your primary care physician about your progress and health status
- Providing 24-hour service
Why isn’t my primary care physician in the hospital with me?
Centegra’s hospitalists support primary care physicians while their patients are hospitalized. If you receive hospitalist care, this specialist closely collaborates with your primary care physician and keeps him or her up to date about your progress.
Does my primary care physician know I am here?
Yes. If you are receiving care from a hospitalist at Centegra in McHenry or Huntley, your primary care physician has requested these services. Your primary care physician will be kept informed about the events of your hospitalization.
What are a hospitalist’s qualifications?
Centegra hospitalists are licensed physicians who specialize in the medical care of hospitalized patients.
Who will see me after discharge?
When you leave the hospital, you will continue to follow up with your regular primary care physician.
Do hospitalists have outpatient offices?
No. Hospitalists are specifically focused on managing the needs of patients in the hospital.
What if I don’t have a regular primary care physician?
Upon your hospital discharge, Centegra will help arrange appropriate follow-up care from a Centegra Physician Care primary care physician.
How will I refill my medications or prescriptions?
The hospitalist may prescribe new medications during your hospital stay. It is important to fill your prescriptions and follow up with your primary care physician within one week to refill your medications. The hospitalist will not provide refills for your medication after you are discharged from the hospital.
