For the fourth year in a row, Centegra Health System is one of 50 employers from across the country named an AARP Best Employer for Workers Over 50. The award, now in its seventh year, was established by AARP to honor employers showing a commitment to an aging workforce.
Centegra Health System is a network of 30 clinical sites covering McHenry County and the greater northeastern Illinois. With over 3,200 associates, twenty-nine percent of them are 50+.
Key areas of consideration to receive the designation include: recruiting practices; opportunities for training; education and career development; workplace accommodations; alternative work options, such as flexible scheduling, job sharing, and phased retirement; employee health and pension benefits; retiree benefits; and age diversity of the workforce.

Centegra offers a retirement program allowing Associates the ability to phase into retirement through flexible scheduling options such as part-time work, registry status, summers off and weekend programs. Centegra’s Alumni Nurse Program as highlighted by AARP as an innovative way for keeping retired employees actively involved in an organization. The program provides an opportunity for RNs to return to the hospital to share their talent and skills in numerous roles working with staff, patients and families.
