News: Centegra Health System Earns Distinguished 2006 Lincoln Silver Award

The Lincoln Foundation for Performance Excellence presented Centegra Health System with the 2006 Lincoln Silver Award for Progress Towards Excellence for demonstrating sound and notable continuous improvement processes for the benefit of their patients. Michael S. Eesley, Centegra President and CEO, accepted the award at a recognition ceremony last night hosted by Michael J. Birck, Chairman of Tellabs, Inc., at the Tellabs Corporation Headquarters in Naperville.

“Several months ago we began a journey to compete for the prestigious Lincoln Award for Performance Excellence as a way to better understand how we function as a healthcare system and to find ways to improve our systems and overall performance for the good of our patients,” noted Eesley. “The Lincoln Award criteria are similar to the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award yet it is a state award and therefore recognizes Illinois companies for their progress towards excellence.”

“This year we are recognizing a group of organizations that are leading the way in improving Healthcare, Industry and Government” says Paul G. Kuchuris, Jr., President and CEO of The Lincoln Foundation. “We are proud to honor them and to be a part of their success because they represent people who are committed to continuously improving their organizations and developing Communities of Excellence. They are demonstrating that by using a well structured, proven framework, organizations can ensure that our state will continue to be competitive and build a bright future for Illinois.”

“This award highlights the work we have done as a system to align our mission, vision, and strategy to advance healthcare in our local communities,” Eesley stated. “We will continue to strive to fulfill our vision for making greater McHenry County the healthiest region in the country.”

As part of the application process, The Lincoln Foundation performed a site visit to Centegra. State examiners thoroughly interviewed 100 Centegra Associates during all three shifts to gain valuable insights on Centegra’s journey to excellence.

The Lincoln Foundation for Performance Excellence awards are based on the Criteria for Performance Excellence of the Baldrige National Quality Program. The Lincoln Foundation for Performance Excellence is a not-for-profit organization backed by both private and public funding. The Lincoln Foundation seeks to help Illinois organizations continuously improve their performance by encouraging, developing and highlighting excellence among all five sectors of the economy: industry, service, healthcare, education and government.
