Centegra Health System congratulates associate Kathleen Fischer, the recipient of the 2013 Woodstock Moose Lodge Annual Nurse of the Year Award. Fischer has been a nurse at Centegra Health System for 33 years.
She is the coordinator of clinical practice and the lead resource for nursing students who request clinical rotations at Centegra. Fischer was presented the award at a Nov. 21 nursing leadership meeting at Centegra Hospital-McHenry.
“Fischer’s passion for nursing and for providing high-quality clinical experiences for students is pervasive,” said Sue Kugler, director of the patient experience at Centegra.
Fischer helped develop Centegra’s Red Carpet Clinical as a way to make nursing students feel welcomed to the Centegra family, as if they are local celebrities. She also oversees Centegra’s Alumni Nursing Program, a program designed to bring retired nurses back to the clinical atmosphere to provide undivided patient care during admission and discharge.
“Her enthusiasm and dedication provides valuable education to move forward and build an evidence-based practice culture at Centegra,” Kugler said. “This provides our patients with the highest standards of nursing practice that leads to quality care and outcomes.”
Students have said Fischer created an excellent learning environment at Centegra. Many students within the program seek to continue their nursing career at Centegra.
Fischer has served as the chair of the Nursing Shared Governance Research Council. She is a leader in bringing awareness of research and evidence-based practices to all Centegra’s clinical nurses.
“Kathleen models true nursing passion and professionalism with a spirit and goal to make a difference to everyone she touches,” Kugler added.
