News: U+2 program inspires women to get screened for breast cancer

A new Centegra Health System program will encourage women to receive screening mammograms in an effort to find breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages. The women of McHenry and Kane counties can now inspire their female friends and family members to get mammograms through the U+2 program.

u+2-web-610x225-white“Annual mammograms are an essential part of health screenings for women,” said Dr. Joanna Rossi, director of breast imaging with Centegra Health System. “The American College of Radiology and the American Cancer Society recommend annual mammograms for women age 40 and older.”

The U+2 program rewards women for supporting their friends’ breast health. To join the cause, a woman visits to enter a screening mammogram appointment request. She sends two of her closest friends an encouraging email reminder to do the same, right from the U+2 web page. She then receives a voucher via email to redeem for a free eye pillow after her own screening mammogram. Because women also look out for their friends’ best interests, Centegra will not use or share the friends’ email addresses that are entered as part of the U+2 program. “The National Cancer Institute estimates one out of every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer,” Rossi said. “Our goal is to find and treat breast cancer as early as possible. Early detection saves lives. We understand that in today’s busy world, women too often decide to put their own health needs last. Women at Centegra developed this program to encourage the women in our communities to support each other while taking care of their own individual health needs.”

Centegra Health System is committed to meeting the healthcare needs of the residents of greater McHenry County and to making services available in multiple and convenient locations, including hospitals in McHenry and Woodstock, Immediate and Physician Care Centers, Centegra Sage Cancer Center, Health Bridge Fitness Centers and the widely anticipated Centegra Hospital-Huntley slated for opening in 2016.
