Lake in the Hills 13-year-old breaks collarbone hour before party’s start
Jakob Proffitt turned 13 on July 13, 2018. To mark this golden birthday, his family planned a huge birthday bash complete with a water slide.
An hour before the party was supposed to start at their Lake in the Hills home, Jakob went down the water slide too fast and injured himself.
His grandmother, Kathy Proffitt, took him to the emergency room at Centegra Hospital-Huntley with a polite request to the staff in the ED.
“I let them know when we checked in that we were having his party in an hour and would appreciate anything they could do to get us in and out as quickly as possible,” Kathy Proffitt said.
In the next hour and a half, Jakob was evaluated, taken to imaging for an X-ray, diagnosed with a broken collarbone and released.
“I know how long you can usually expect to be in an emergency room,” Kathy Proffitt said. “But everyone was so understanding, and they were able to get us in and out in less than an hour and a half. I really appreciate it and wanted to thank those in the ER that day.”
Jakob and his grandmother made it back to the party to continue Jakob’s golden birthday celebration. While Jakob was sporting a sling, he was still able to enjoy the festivities.
