Volunteers needed at Pink Door Thrift Shop

The Auxiliary to Centegra Hospital-McHenry is currently in need of a few more good men and women to volunteer. Many Centegra Health System departments and programs benefit from the work of volunteers who serve.

The Pink Door Thrift Shop is located at 3741 W. Elm Street in McHenry. The Pink Door Thrift Shop sells clothing, furniture, home décor and children’s toys. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Auxiliary to Centegra Hospital-McHenry also operates the Pink Lady gift shop inside the hospital that sells a variety of items such as flowers, plush, women’s accessories, balloons and baby and seasonal gifts. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. All the funds raised from the thrift and gift shops are donated back to Centegra Hospital-McHenry.

For many years, Don Miksch worked three six-hour days at Centegra Hospital-McHenry and recently started volunteering at the Pink Door Tuesdays and Fridays. He said he likes giving back to Centegra following the wonderful treatment his wife received.

At Centegra, one can volunteer at the thrift store or gift shop, visit with patients prior to surgery in the hospital, and transport patients in wheelchairs or assist in many other ways. Those 18 years of age or older and interested in becoming a Centegra volunteer are encouraged to call 815-759-4334 for more information.

The Auxiliary to Centegra Hospital-McHenry recently donated $100,000 to the Centegra Health System Foundation to benefit the expansion of Centegra Hospital-McHenry’s emergency department. The expansion allows for increased privacy, technology and efficiency; new and improved waiting area; centralized and convenient nursing station; dedicated observation unit adjacent to ED and enhanced trauma care. The auxiliary also awards annual health care scholarships to recipients each June.

The auxiliary is comprised of volunteers who organize fundraising activities, manage resale and gift shops and provide creative support for Centegra programs. Their efforts and goodwill have furnished major spaces, bought surgical and emergency equipment and refurbished several critical care areas.
