Centegra Hospital-Woodstock is currently in need of a few more good men and women to volunteer. Many Centegra Health System departments and programs benefit from the work of volunteers who serve.One can visit with patients prior to surgery, transport patients in wheelchairs or assist in many other ways.   Those 18 years of age or older and interested in becoming a Centegra volunteer are encouraged to call 815-759-4334 for more information.For the last several years, Centegra Health System has begun to view volunteers as an untapped resource that could be used in more creative ways. For example, a newly retired vice president of finance joined Centegra to donate her time. The bright, accomplished woman wanted to do something in which her skills could be used to their fullest potential. She attended a week long training offered by the Illinois Division of Insurance and is now volunteering as a certified Medicare counselor. She meets with Medicare beneficiaries at Centegra and helps them navigate through Medicare rules. She is one of 10 Medicare counselors at Centegra. They help answer difficult questions and help Medicare beneficiaries maintain compliance with medications and healthcare. The partnership is a win for Centegra and a win for the volunteer.Studies show that baby boomer volunteers want to use their skills to contribute to their community and help solve tough problems. Centegra is committed to providing challenging opportunities for this healthy, highly educated group.
