Several people in Rodney Sterne’s life have been diagnosed with cancer. The lifelong McHenry County resident saw his mother overcome breast cancer but die a few years later from lung cancer. His mother-in-law also died from lung cancer. His father was recently treated for prostate cancer and is currently well. When someone from his office was diagnosed with breast cancer he decided it was time to take action.
Through his real estate agency, Realty Executives, Sterne generated more than $2,000 that he donated to the Centegra Gavers Breast Center. ”It amazes me that women with cancer are somehow able to carry on with day-to-day life. I just wanted to do something to make their fight a little bit easier,” Sterne said. Sterne is acquainted with Chris English, a breast cancer survivor who helps to lead the breast cancer support group at Centegra Gavers Breast Center. She encouraged him to donate to the Centegra Gavers Breast Center because it supports local breast cancer patients and provides support services that go beyond treating a person’s cancer. Sterne and English both visited the breast center Tuesday, Feb. 21 to donate $2,353.
