News: Physicians to address shoulder joint replacement, heart health and diabetes

shoulder replacement

Free physician lectures at Centegra Health System in November encourage individuals to be proactive about their health.

When medications, injections and physical therapy are no longer helpful to relieve shoulder pain, it may be time to consider shoulder joint replacement. Join Dr. Justin Gent, an independent orthopedic surgeon on the medical staff at Centegra Health System, as he discusses the many conditions that can cause shoulder pain and disability. Gent will also discuss how shoulder joint replacement can help increase shoulder mobility and get people back to their everyday activities pain free. The free program will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center-Crystal Lake, 200 E. Congress Parkway. For more information, visit centegra.org/lectures. To register, call 877-CENTEGRA.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Smokers are two to four times more likely to develop heart disease than a nonsmoker. Join Dr. Douglas Tomasian, a cardiologist with Centegra Physician Care and director of cardiology at Centegra Health System, as he discusses how smoking affects the heart and what screenings can determine current heart health. The McHenry County Department of Health also will provide information about its Freedom From Smoking program. In addition, eligible attendees may schedule a free CT lung screening, a cost savings of $299. The free lecture will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center-Crystal Lake, 200 E. Congress Parkway. For more information, visit centegra.org/lectures. To register, call 877-CENTEGRA.

Understanding how to manage diabetes is an ongoing process. Join Dr. Jyothi Gogineni, an endocrinologist with Centegra Physician Care and registered dietitian Tiffanie Young, a diabetes educator with Centegra Health System, as they discuss the serious complications that can arise if healthy choices and positive lifestyle changes are not made. In addition, be inspired by a healthy, diabetes-friendly cooking demonstration. Information about the Centegra diabetes support group also will be discussed. Space is limited. The free lecture will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 in the community room at Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association, 285 Memorial Drive, Crystal Lake.
