Centegra Health System announced its vision for increasing access to healthcare in Southern McHenry County and Northern Kane County. The vision includes a new full-service acute-care hospital at Haligus Road and Reed Road on Centegra’s existing healthcare campus in Huntley.Centegra plans to submit a Certificate of Need with the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board to build a 360,000 square-foot, 128-bed facility named Centegra Hospital-Huntley. Centegra purchased the land in Huntley four years ago and has created a strong, long-term plan for responsible development of the site.
“Additional services are needed in the Huntley community and Centegra is the health system best-suited to provide these services,” said Centegra Chief Executive Officer Michael S. Eesley. “Although we brought outpatient and physician services to southern McHenry County, the area remains medically underserved. In fact, state data shows that because of population growth, this region is one of the few areas in Illinois that is in need of inpatient beds.”
This $233 million project is a demonstration of Centegra’s continued commitment to providing access to high-quality healthcare, from wellness services to comprehensive medical care, for the residents of the region. Centegra will pay for the hospital through a combination of cash and bonding. The hospital would include state-of-the-art technology, private patient rooms and a bright and airy architectural design intended to facilitate wellness and recovery. Other features include a full-service emergency department, Level II nursery, non-invasive cardiology services, a dedicated Women’s Center and a helipad for transporting patients with the most critical needs. Centegra Health System will collaborate with the Village of Huntley to provide convenient healthcare services with a strong focus on customer service to the greater Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Algonquin, Carpentersville, Lakewood and southern Crystal Lake communities.
The project is a significant one for the community and will require approval by the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board through its Certificate of Need process. The anticipated completion date for the hospital is 2016.In addition to needed healthcare services, the project would deliver welcome new jobs and revenue to McHenry County. It is estimated that more than 800 construction jobs will be created with this project, having a total economic impact of $152 million on area communities. An additional $45 million would be generated in professional salaries and medical equipment and furnishings. Centegra Health System expects to employ an additional 1,100 Associates due to the new hospital. “As the largest healthcare provider in McHenry County, it is our responsibility to always look for ways to improve the care we provide to those who rely on us,” Eesley said. “We are invested in this region and we are excited to play an active role in its growth in the years to come.”
