Centegra Health System joins the American Diabetes Association in educating the public about the risks involved with the serious matter of diabetes. Several events are planned in McHenry County through the month of November, American Diabetes Month.A free diabetes fair will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 4 at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center-Huntley at 10450 Algonquin Road. Guests will have a chance to speak with the experts on various topics including diabetes, behavioral health, cardiology, Centegra Physician Care, Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center, home health, financial services, medical imaging, neuro-rehabilitation, nutrition services, weight-loss surgery, wound care, pharmacy and podiatry. Additionally, there will be an informational discussion on “Lifestyle Therapy: A Wellness Approach to Disease Prevention.” Complimentary light refreshments also will be provided.The Northwest Trail Run is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 13 at Veteran Acres Park in Crystal Lake. The 10-mile race begins at 8:30 a.m. and the five-mile race begins at 8:50 a.m. The park has entrances off Route 176 and Walkup Road. Parking will be available at the park. The first 400 people to register will receive free Northwest Trail Run shirts. Early-bird registration is open through Nov. 10. The public is also invited to walk through a grocery store with a registered dietitian to learn more about how to choose healthy foods during a free tour of Jewel-Osco in Crystal Lake from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2. Join Dr. Jyothi Gogineni, an endocrinologist with Centegra Physician Care, as she discusses during a free lecture, the prevention and symptoms of diabetes as well as steps towards feeling better and leading a longer, healthier life. “Don’t Sugarcoat Diabetes” will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center-Huntley, 10450 Algonquin Road.
Throughout the year, a registered nurse and registered dietitian provide training on managing blood glucose, making informed nutrition choices, exercise, diabetes prevention and treating diabetes complications during diabetes self-management training.
