The Centegra Sage Cancer Center will welcome an art competition and exhibition to McHenry County from June 1 to June 15. The exhibit, Lilly Oncology on Canvas: Expressions of a Cancer Journey, was first developed in 2004 to help people affected by cancer as they cope with the emotional side of the disease.
The biennial competition, which is presented by Lilly Oncology and the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS), invites cancer survivors from the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada as well as their families, friends, caregivers and healthcare providers to express through art and narratives the life-affirming changes that give their cancer journeys meaning. To date, more than 3,600 individuals have submitted artwork and narratives to Lilly Oncology on Canvas. The June exhibit at the Centegra Sage Cancer Center will be from the 2010 competition, and the center expects about 25 pieces to be on display.
“As soon as a person is diagnosed with cancer, he or she begins a journey toward survivorship,” said Amy Moerschbaecher, executive director of oncology and medicine services at Centegra Health System. “We are proud to welcome the Lilly Oncology on Canvas exhibit because it illustrates the intense emotions that patients and their loved ones feel as they cope with this disease. This exhibit celebrates life and the struggles that every person with cancer must go through during his or her journey.”For more information about the exhibit visit http://www.lillyoncologyoncanvas.com/Pages/Index.aspx.
