Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock have again received chest pain center accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC). SCPC focuses on transforming cardiovascular care by assisting facilities in providing exceptional cardiac care starting with the emergency medical system and continuing all the way through cardiac rehabilitation.
“This reaccreditation reflects Centegra’s commitment to providing the best care for patients who are suffering from chest pain or acute myocardial infarction, which is known as a heart attack,” said Dr. Douglas Tomasian, medical director of cardiology for Centegra Physician Care and director of the cardiac catheterization lab for Centegra Health System. “We have detailed protocols in place so that we can quickly respond and save heart muscle when patients present with an acute myocardial infarction. The most important thing for people to know is to call 911 immediately if they have heart attack symptoms. The faster a person gets to our chest pain centers, the faster he can receive life-saving treatment.”
To become an accredited chest pain center both Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock engaged in rigorous reevaluation of their cardiac care processes. During the site visits, the hospital staffs demonstrated how they integrate best medical practices and the latest research into cardiac care. Both hospitals have proven their abilities to reduce the time from the start of cardiac symptoms to diagnosis and treatment. Centegra hospitals provide the entire continuum of state-of-the-art heart care, which includes emergency medical system, emergency department, catheterization laboratory, cardiology, cardiac diagnostics, heart surgery, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, cardiac-certified nurses and dietitians, heart failure and heart screenings.
As accredited chest pain centers Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock ensure that patients who arrive at the hospital with chest pain or other symptoms of a heart attack receive the treatment necessary during the critical window of time when the integrity of the heart muscle can be preserved.
“All of the health care professionals involved in acute cardiac care at Centegra are proud of our reaccreditation,” Tomasian said. “As accredited chest pain centers for the past two years, Centegra’s hospitals have committed to higher standards and enhanced patient care.”
