Society of Thoracic Surgeons honors Centegra with three stars for quality care
Centegra Hospital-McHenry has received the highest three-star rating for cardiac surgery quality from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). Approximately 10 percent of hospitals nation wide receive the three-star rating, which denotes the highest category of quality.
The STS three-star rating system is highly regarded as the best way to compare cardiac surgery programs based on cardiac teams’ performance in terms of survival rates, the absence of complications and other key measures.
“We are proud our heart surgery team received the highest quality rating possible,” said Dr. Thomas Hinkamp, an independent cardiac and thoracic surgeon at Centegra Hospital-McHenry. “The STS rating system is very comprehensive and this award places us among the best cardiac surgery programs in the nation.”
Centegra Health System partners with physicians from Cardiac Surgery Associates, S.C., to provide patients a complete range of heart surgeries. This partnership has brought advanced cardiac care to McHenry County to ensure community members can receive the best care close to home.
“This three-star rating shows our patients receive outstanding clinical care from our physicians and associates,” said Rachel Sebastian, vice president and site administrator at Centegra Hospital-McHenry. “Combined with the compassionate care we provide and our full range of services, we know we’re delivering an excellent heart program to our community. Every day we work to improve the services and care we provide. Awards like this remind us that we’re succeeding in our goal to keep our patients ahead of heart disease.”
