Speaker: Dr. David Suh, Radiation Oncologist
I’m a radiation oncologist, a cancer doctor who treats different forms of cancer with radiation. I work with a compassionate team right here at the Centegra Sage Cancer Center in Mchenry.I’m excited to discuss today, a state of the art treatment option that may be appropriate to 1 in 10 women in our region. I’m speaking about the management of early stage breast cancer. I’m pleased to be able offer at Centegra, the latest therapy called partial breast radiation therapy using a SAVI catheter system. This system delivers radiation directly to the inside of the breast directly at the site of the cancer which minimizes exposure to healthy tissue and thus reduces complications. The most exciting aspect of this treatment option is that it reduces the number of radiation treatments from 6 ½ weeks to just 5 treatment days. Many women with early stage breast cancer should qualify for this treatment option.
