Hypogonadism

Speaker: Steven McCarthy, Internal Medicine Physician with Centegra Primary Care

Male hypogonadism occurs when the body does not produce enough testosterone. If you are an adult male who has experienced erectile dysfunction, changes in your body or if you feel different emotionally, you may be suffering from low testosterone. Some men are born with this condition, but it can also develop after an injury or illness. Other symptoms include a decrease in beard or body hair growth, lessening muscle and bone mass, infertility or the development of breast tissue. Men can also experience fatigue, a decreased sex drive and symptoms like hot flashes.Hypogonadism can be caused by problems in the testicles or in the parts of the brain that signal testosterone production. A simple blood test can determine whether you should receive medication.Talk to your doctor if you notice changes in the way you look or feel.
