Centegra offers free parenting lecture series

Centegra Health System will host several free health lectures this fall. Community members are welcome to hear physicians speak about parenting issues, chest pain, breast reconstruction and the relationship between diabetes and heart disease.

Centegra’s Parenting Series will offer The First Year of Life, a presentation about basic infant care and how to keep your baby safe and healthy. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, Centegra pediatricians Laura Larkner, MD, Laura Buthod, MD and Laurie Louthain, MD will share their knowledge about what to expect when your baby arrives. The Parenting Series will continue with a program for the parents of toddlers. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday Nov. 5, Centegra pediatricians Laura Bianconi, MD, Pat Nofzinger, MD, Dana Hartwigsen, MD and Jennifer Suh, MD will talk about ways to teach your toddler to express him or her self. The doctors will share ideas about ways to make the “terrible twos” less terrible. Are you a parent of a teenager? Learn how to survive the teen years at a Centegra Parenting Series presentation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3. Centegra pediatricians Mike Gronberg, MD, Joanne Knapik, MD and Dave Halstead, MD will share ideas about parenting adolescents. Find out about Chest Pain: Signs and Symptoms of a Heart Attack, from Nitin Kher, MD, a cardiologist on staff at Centegra Health System. Kher will discuss the signs and symptoms of heart attacks for men and women. This free lecture will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19 in the Conference Room at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center – Crystal Lake, 200 Congress Parkway. Learn about Breast Reconstruction: a Personal Choice, from Gunnar Thors, MD, a plastic/reconstructive surgeon on staff at Centegra Health System, and Lynn Griesmaier, RN, MS, CBPN-C, Centegra’s certified Breast Care Navigator in Breast Imaging. From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, Thors will discuss breast reconstruction options after lumpectomy or mastectomy. Griesmaier will talk about her role and how she assists individuals before and after breast surgery.
