Centegra Health System and the Gavers Community Cancer Foundation are committed to raising awareness of the importance of early detection and prevention of multiple cancer types. Two screening events will take place in the fall. A Sept. 15 men’s event will be in McHenry and an Oct. 11 women’s event will be offered in Crystal Lake.
The Gavers Community Cancer Foundation has provided the funding to assist Centegra Health System in taking early detection of multiple cancer types to the next level by offering some of these free and comprehensive screening events to the community.
Get Checked! Sept. 15 men’s event
This free event is planned for 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Centegra Sage Cancer Center in McHenry. Registration is required and space is limited. To register, call 1-877-CENTEGRA (236-8347).
It combines prostate, skin, oral, head and neck cancer screenings, with wellness exhibits, nutrition advice and video of the daVinci robotic surgery system. Centegra’s mobile health unit, Wellness on the Move, also will be present. The mobile health unit will include free blood pressure screenings, body mass index and body fat screenings and non-fasting finger stick diabetes screenings.
Also during the event, Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center, Centegra Sage Cancer Center, Centegra Gavers Breast Center and more will provide information on their services.
Get Checked! Oct. 11 women’s event
This free event is planned for 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Centegra Gavers Breast Center–Crystal Lake. Registration is required and space is limited. To register, call 1-877-CENTEGRA (236-8347).
It combines cervical cancer screenings with pelvic exams, clinical breast exams, mammograms and wellness exhibits, nutrition advice and video of the daVinci robotic surgery system. Centegra’s mobile health unit, Wellness on the Move, also will be present. The mobile health unit will include free blood pressure screenings, body mass index and body fat screenings and bone density screenings.
Also during the event, Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center, Centegra Sage Cancer Center and more will provide information.

Program provides information about lifestyle changes and guidelines for routine screenings that can make a big difference in one’s life.
The Gavers Cancer Resource Library is also featured in Centegra Sage Cancer Center in McHenry and offers touch-screen computers, a library inventory of books, journals and booklets. Information in the library is available in English and Spanish.
