The Centegra Hospital-McHenry Emergency Department (ED) is newly renovated, offering more than 15,000 square feet. The ED previously occupied 10,000 square feet.
Each new treatment room is private with solid walls and glass sliding doors. Two new trauma rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art ceiling mounted technology located right at a clinician’s fingertips to deliver effective care for the most demanding situations. A new outpatient observation unit adjacent to the ED offers short-term treatment, assessment and reassessment for those patients who need it. The new waiting area, centralized and convenient nursing station and efficient design and layout are results of input from ED caregivers, physicians and patients.”We are very excited to open this state-of-the-art Emergency Department to the community and the patients we serve. Renovation was the most cost effective and most prudent way to meet the increasing community demands,” said David Tomlinson, vice president of operations for Centegra Health System. “The new design and layout allows us to better meet the needs of the community and will truly make a difference for our physicians, nurses, patients and associates for years to come.” Construction began in the fall of 2010 and cost about $6 million. The renovated ED features 21 treatment rooms and 14 patient rooms in the observation unit. It is expected to open fully to the public by the end of the year, depending on Illinois Department of Public Health inspection.
