Centegra Health System will host the sixth annual Health Strong Woman event Thursday, Feb. 23 as a reminder to women of McHenry County to take care of their own health and wellness. It will be conducted from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Crystal Lake. Admission is $10.Attendees will enjoy a healthy lunch and free health screenings, which include blood pressure, bone density, carpal tunnel and diabetes. DiabetesAware ® and HeartAware ® online risk assessments also will be offered. Guests will receive a $10 gift card to Algonquin Commons upon arrival as well as have the opportunity to win raffle prizes. Algonquin Commons also will donate many of the raffle prizes.During the Centegra Health Strong Woman Event, guests will meet three of Centegra’s own specialty physicians who will share their knowledge during a panel discussion on how to be a healthy woman. They will discuss heart health, diabetes and genetic counseling concerns that are prevalent today.During a new lunch and learn portion of the program, women will have the opportunity to sit at a table with one of many Centegra professionals. The lunch and learn component allows attendees the chance to gain personal access to physicians, dietitians, personal trainers and more.Each year, Centegra hosts a special guest speaker at the event. This year, Centegra will bring Eliz Greene, a frequent speaker at national Go Red for Women events with the American Heart Association.Greene shares simple strategies on how to live longer and feel better in her book, “The Busy Woman’s Guide to a Healthy Heart.” Her book will be given to all attendees and Greene will sign copies for guests after her presentation.Greene had a heart attack at the age of 35 while pregnant with twins and her life changed in the span of a few hours. Greene promises to entertain while educating the audience on ways to proactively take control of one’s health.Women should sign up for the event either by going online to Centegra.org/healthstrong or by calling 877-CENTEGRA, or 877-236-8347. There is limited seating and tickets sell quickly. The first 300 to pre-register will receive a healthy eating cookbook.Women may stop by during their lunch break or stay for a day of free health screenings and presentations to learn more about being a Centegra Health Strong Woman.
