Best Place to Work in Healthcare
In October 2012, Centegra Physician Care was named one of Modern Healthcare’s 2012 Best Places to Work in Healthcare for the second consecutive year. The magazine’s annual Best Places to Work in Healthcare program recognizes employers for creating workplaces in health care that enable employees to perform at their optimum level to provide patients and customers with the best possible patient care and services.
UnitedHealth Premium specialty center for interventional cardiac care and for rhythm management
In June 2012, Centegra Hospital-McHenry received designation as a UnitedHealth Premium specialty center for interventional cardiac care and for rhythm management. The UnitedHealth Premium specialty center program is designed to help consumers make more informed choices as they select facilities that are designated for providing quality and cost-efficient health care.
Joint Commission Accreditations
In August 2011 a number of Joint Commission Accreditations were announced based on voluntary surveys that included reviews of Centegra’s clinical programs and the ways care is delivered to people who suffer specific diseases. The certifications recognize Centegra’s compliance with national standards and evidence-based clinical practice.
- The stroke programs at both Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock earned stroke certification through the Joint Commission.
- Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock earned Joint Commission certification for heart failure.
- Centegra Hospital-Woodstock received weight-loss surgery certification from the Joint Commission for its outstanding patient care in our bariatrics program.
- The Centegra Home Medical Equipment team also received Joint Commission accreditation. This accreditation is part of Medicare’s quality standards and is required for providers of durable medical equipment.
Centegra Gavers Breast Center earns NAPBC
In August 2011 the Centegra Gavers Breast Center earned full accreditation from the American College of Surgeons National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). It is the first center in McHenry County to earn this accreditation because it offers a full continuum of care for patients identified with abnormal screenings or other breast health concerns and is committed to early detection.
Best Place to Work in Healthcare
In May, 2011 Centegra Health System was named to the 2011 Becker’s Hospital Review/Becker’s ASC Review list of the Best Places to Work in Healthcare. The 100 workplaces named to this list represent a wide spectrum of facilities from across the nation, from leading health systems to small community hospitals to ambulatory surgery centers and physician practices. Centegra Health System is among only six in Illinois to receive the distinction.
Echo Lab Accreditation
In May, 2011 The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) granted accreditation to Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock. Accreditation status signifies that a facility has been reviewed by an independent agency that recognizes a lab’s commitment to quality testing for the diagnosis of heart disease.
Oncology 2010 Outstanding Achievement Award
In March, 2011 Centegra Oncology Services at Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock were among only six organizations in Illinois to receive the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer 2010 Outstanding Achievement Award. The Outstanding Achievement Award is designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.
Blue Distinction Centers for Spine Surgery
In March, 2011 Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock became Designated Blue Distinction Centers for Spine Surgery. The Blue Distinction Centers for Spine Surgery are designated based on certain selection criteria for demonstrating reliability in delivering spine surgery services, as well as better overall outcomes. This distinction demonstrates Centegra’s commitment to quality care. Centegra has also maintained the Blue Distinction Center for Total Joint Replacements at both sites.
Chest Pain Accreditation
In December, 2010 Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock received Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC), an international organization dedicated to eliminating heart disease as the No. 1 cause of death. Both hospitals are part of Centegra Health System, the first in the northern Illinois region to receive one of the most advanced levels of chest pain accreditations. This advanced accreditation makes Centegra’s hospitals two of only 11 in Illinois to earn this level of distinction.According to the SCPC, hospitals that have received SCPC accreditation have achieved a higher level of expertise in dealing with patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack.
American College of Radiation Accreditation
In November, 2010 Centegra Health System was awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as the result of a review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Mammography is a specific type of imaging test that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women. The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards, after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
Outsourcing Excellence Award for Best Transition
In July, 2010 Centegra Health System and Dell Services were awarded the Outsourcing Center’s 2010 Outsourcing Excellence Award for Best Transition in recognition of the strong working relationship Centegra and Dell Services (formerly Perot Systems) have shared since 2008. The Outsourcing Center awards honor the most outstanding outsourcing relationships worldwide.
Commission on Cancer Accreditation
In June, 2010 The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) completed its three-year survey of the Centegra Hospital-McHenry and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock campuses and found both campuses to be compliant on all standards, with approval on all standards that meet commendation level.The CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard setting, prevention, research, education and monitoring of comprehensive quality care.
Gold Well Workplace Award
In December, 2009 Centegra Health System was awarded a gold Well Workplace Award from the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA) for its Wellness for Life program. WELCOA is dedicated to helping organizations of all kinds build and sustain results-oriented wellness programs. There are only three winners of the Gold Award in 2009 from Illinois including Centegra Health System.The WELCOA Gold Award is for the Centegra Health System Associate Wellness Program called Wellness for Life, a special and unique benefit offered to Centegra Associates through the Total Rewards@Work benefits program.

Top 50 Health Systems
In August, 2009 it was announced that Centegra Health System was listed as one of 50 top-ranked health systems in a new report-Thomson Reuters’ 100 Top Hospitals: Health Systems Quality/Efficiency Study. The study evaluated 252 health systems with a total of 1,720 hospitals on measures of clinical quality and efficiency.This national benchmark provides Centegra Health System with an objective assessment of the care that we provide to our communities and patients, relative to others across the nation. All U.S. health systems with two or more short-term, general, non-federal hospitals were assessed. Researchers looked at five metrics that gauge clinical quality and efficiency: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, and adherence to clinical standards of care (evidence-based core measures published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence
In August, 2009 it was announced that Centegra Health System, Amir Heydari, MD, and Centegra Weight-Loss Surgery Center was named an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The ASMBS Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.
Fortune 100
In March, 2009 it was announced that Centegra Health System has been invited to participate in Fortune Magazine’s Top 100 Companies to Work for the fifth year in a row. Approximately 1,000 companies throughout the country made inquiries and Centegra was one of 400 companies to receive an invitation to participate.
AARP
In September, 2008 Centegra Health Systems was among AARP’s top 50 best employers in the nation for workers age 50 and older for the fifth year in a row. Centegra was one of four Illinois companies to make the list. Bob Gallo, AARP Illinois state director, said Centegra was recognized for offering creative programs for experienced workers, including an alumni nurse program which hires retired nurses to mentor younger nurses and fill patient care needs. Also making the list from Illinois were Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Chicago; Centers for New Horizons, Chicago; and Hanson Professional Services, Springfield.
ChildTime Day Care Accreditation
In September, 2008 the ChildTime Day Care Center located on the Centegra Hospital McHenry campus received accreditation by NAEYC, The National Association for the Education of Young Children. Receiving this accreditation represents the mark of quality in early childhood education, providing a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of young children. The benefits of this accreditation for our Associates and the Community include:

CoC Outstanding Achievement Award
In April, 2008 it was announced that the Program Review Subcommittee confirmed that the Centegra Sage Cancer Care Center is a CoC Outstanding Achievement Award recipient.Established in 2004, the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) was designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. A facility receives the OAA following the on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which the facility demonstrates a Commendation level of compliance with seven standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program (cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach, and quality improvement). In addition, a facility receives a compliance rating for the remaining 29 standards. Sixty-seven programs received the OAA as a result of surveys performed in 2007. This number represents approximately 15 percent of the programs surveyed during this period.
Thompson Top 100 Hospitals
In March, 2008 it was announced that for the third year in a row, Centegra Hospital-McHenry (formerly known as Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center) was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals: Benchmarks for Success by Thomson Healthcare, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. Centegra Hospital-McHenry is one of only six Illinois hospitals to be named to the prestigious list.The award recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, financial performance, efficiency and growth in patient volume. The 2007 Thomson 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success study appears in the March 17, 2008 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.This acknowledgement continues to demonstrate Centegra’s commitment to quality and our overall dedication to the health and well-being of the people in our growing community.
Oncology Nurse Certification 100%
In March, 2008 it was announced that 100% of the Centegra Sage Cancer Center nurses received recognition from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. That makes the Centegra Sage Cancer Center one of the few cancer centers in the nation to achieve this level of certification. OCN certification is a voluntary process. It demonstrates that the nurse has developed specialty knowledge related to the care of cancer patients and their families.
HealthGrades 2008
February, 2008 it was announced that Centegra Hospital – Woodstock (formerly known as Centegra Memorial Medical Center) was recognized as a recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence TM, based on a study issued by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent healthcare ratings company. Centegra Hospital-Woodstock has achieved HealthGrades’ Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence TM three years in a row (2006, 2007, and 2008).This year, Centegra Hospital-Woodstock is one of only 269 of the nation’s 4,971 non-federal hospitals to receive the distinction and is one of only two community hospitals in Illinois to be a recipient of the award three years in a row. Centegra Hospital-Woodstock is also a recipient of the HealthGrades Pulmonary Care Excellence Award TM for the third year in a row, ranking it among the top five percent in the nation for overall pulmonary care.
